Cubetta

A video codec built for live video. Every frame is sent the moment it is captured, with no waiting for future frames, and still fits in very little bandwidth.

Try it with your camera

Runs entirely in your browser. Your video never leaves your computer.

Zero latency

No B frames and no look-ahead. Each frame is encoded and decoded as soon as it arrives, as a video call needs.

Small streams

On our webcam tests at zero latency, Cubetta streams are about the size of x265 at its slow preset, and smaller than x264 veryslow.

In the browser

The encoder and decoder are compiled to WebAssembly and use several cores when the browser allows it.

How to try it

  1. Open the live demo and press Start camera. Allow camera access when asked.
  2. Watch the camera on the left and the Cubetta-decoded picture on the right, with the bitrate below.
  3. Move the quality slider to trade size for detail. 480 × 270 runs smoothly on most laptops.
